Core Pilates & Yoga

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?
If you’ve never taken a Pilates or Yoga class with a trainer, then we’d like to recommend you take advantage of our Introductory Session at a reduced rate. During this one-hour session, our trainer will touch on each phase of the workout, discuss your goals and concerns, and help you find the ideal program for you.

Why Pilates and not the gym?
Unlike going to the gym or other training programs, Pilates works your entire body, emphasizing control, precision and concentration in both the mind and the body. Movements are deliberate and focused — not performed rapidly or repeated excessively. We focus on quality, not quantity of movements. When you “work that core,” your abdominal muscles, lower back and buttocks serve as your "powerhouse" — the center of all movement — so the rest of your body may move freely. By focusing on your core, you gain strength from the inside out. And because Pilates by its nature is low-impact, you don’t risk the kind of injury as you would with other workout programs. It’s also ideal if you are in rehabilitation. The Six Principles of Pilates are concentration, control, centering, breathing, flow and precision. These principles train your body to move efficiently, with minimal bodily impact. Pilates achieves a healthy balance between strength and flexibility to create a healthy, vigorous and symmetrical workout for all muscle groups. The result is a leaner, more balanced, and stronger you.

How often should I take classes?
There are any number of answers to this question depending on your individual needs, schedule and budget. We will work with you to design the best program possible for you.

I have chronic pain from an old knee injury and now have arthritis. Can I still do Pilates?
Absolutely! One of the distinguishing features of Pilates from other exercise regimes is that movements are controlled, graceful and crafted to your particular condition, skill level or physical ability.

Will Pilates help me lose post-pregnancy weight?
Yes. In most cases, Pilates will not only help you lose post-pregnancy weight and get back in shape, but will contribute to an increase in energy and overall health and wellbeing. We plan to add Moms & Tots classes in the near future.
