Pilates for Rehabilitation
In the early 20th century Joseph Pilates, founder of the exercise system that bears his name, set out to develop an exercise regimen to improve his personal overall health as a result of numerous childhood ailments. He later refined his methods as a nurse in rehabilitation hospitals. Today, many health professionals recommend Pilates to aid in rehabilitation and as a way of re-educating and re-aligning the body to prevent imbalances. Pilates offers a wide variety of controlled exercises that are very safe and gentle on the body and Pilates apparatus work, in particular, helps to regain functional movement capability after injury.
